  1. Are you having a problem installing FaxMail Network for Windows? If you
  2. are, read the rest of this document. If you are still having a problem,

  6. FaxMail Network for Windows Installation
  7.  
  8. Installing or reinstalling FaxMail Network for Windows:
  9.  
  10. If reinstalling go to [My Computer], [Printers] and be sure that the
  11. [ElectraSoft Convert to Fax] is not your default print driver. If
  12. reinstalling in Windows 95/98, you may need to go to [My Computer],
  13. [Printers] and delete [ElectraSoft Print to Fax].
  14.  
  15. Be sure to get the newest version from our www-page.
  16.  
  17. If FaxMail is or has been running, shut down and restart the computer
  18. because you can not reinstall or modify a file that; is in use, is
  19. running, and in some cases if it has been running earlier. When rebooting,
  20. be sure you do not start any apps or programs. Be sure that FaxMail and
  21. associated files are not running or in use, and that FaxMail is not
  22. running as a service.
  23.  
  24. If you are installing on NT and you have [RAS], [Proxy Server], [Exchange
  25. Server], [all Backoffice Services], [wingate], and/or any other Services
  26. that may be reserving resources and/or the modem running as a service, go
  27. to [Services] in the [Control Panel] and disable/Stop them. After
  28. installation re-enable any services that you disable now.
  29.  
  30. Be sure to log on as the administrator.
  31.  
  32. Be sure that FaxMail has full read/write access.
  33.  
  34. Be sure the time and date are the same on all computers on the network.
  35.  
  36. To install FaxMail on Windows 95/98/NT4.xx, use [Start], [Run], [Browse]
  37. and browse to the directory where you unzipped FaxMail and select
  38. INSTALL.EXE. Do not run INSTALL.EXE in any way other than the way just
  39. described.
  40.  
  41. Install or reinstalling FaxMail without any programs running in the
  42. background. Be sure that, not even, FaxMail is running in the background.
  43. Be sure that the FaxMail INSTALL.EXE has read/write access to the
  44. HardDrive and all files. Otherwise some files may not get copied or
  45. modified. Re-boot immediately after installing.
  46.  
  47. The install instructions are in the INSTALL.EXE.
  48.  
  49. Be very careful when asked for this computer's HardDrive. This computer's
  50. HardDrive should usually be C: drive. If installing on a network you will
  51. select the Server HardDrive later.
  52.  
  53. If installing on a standalone computer, do nothing. If installing on a
  54. network, the Server HardDrive is the mapped drive that all instances on
  55. FaxMail will be using as their [Server HardDrive]. Do not map to FAXMAILN
  56. directory.
  57.  
  58. You may need to reinstall all workstations. Be VERY careful when asked for
  59. THIS COMPUTERS HardDrive and then for the SERVER HardDrive. THIS COMPUTERS
  60. HardDrive is normally C: drive.
  61.  
  62. If you have mapped the workstation 2 SERVER HardDrive to the
  63. ServerDriveLetter:\FAXMAILN, it will not work. You will need to re-map it
  64. to ServerDriveLetter:\
  65.  
  66. You can use paths if you are good with mapping directories.
  67.  
  68. To learn how to map to a directory instead of the root of a server drive,
  69. go to www.ElectraSoft.com, the bottom of [Run FaxMail Network for Windows
  70. as an NT Service] and read the message thread on this subject.
  71.  
  72. You may want to dedicate a whole server drive to FaxMail.
  73.  
  74. After final installation:
  75. If you have installed FaxMail two or more times; once on one HardDrive and
  76. once on another, go to the [printers] and be sure that the ?:\TOFAX port
  77. is correct. Where ? is the HardDriveLetter that FaxMail is installed on.

  79. ElectraSoft Print to Fax MUST use ?:\TOFAX as its port!
  80.  
  81. Be sure you do *NOT* have a directory or file called ?:\TOFAX on the
  82. system.
  83.  
  84. Do not share the ElectraSoft Print to Fax on ?:\TOFAX.  Each station has
  85. its own.
  86.  
  87. All versions of Windows except NT will have the ElectraSoft Print to Fax
  88. available now.
  89.  
  90. If you have Windows NT, go to the Printer-Installer and create the
  91. [ElectraSoft NT Print to Fax] as per the FaxMail README instructions. The
  92. section you want to read is called WINDOWS NT.

  96. If your are installing on Windows 95/98 and after rebooting your computer
  97. the [ElectraSoft Print to Fax] does not show up in the printer selection
  98. list, use the Add Printer ICON as follows:
  99.   o  Click [My Computer], [Printers], [Add Printer], and the Add
  100.      Printer Wizard box will appear.
  101.   o  Click [Next].
  102.   o  Click [(*)Local Printer], [Next] to go to the Printer selection box.
  103.   o  Under [Manufacturer:] select [ElectraSoft].
  104.   o  Under [Printers:] select: [ElectraSoft Print to Fax]
  105.   o  Click [Next] to go to the [Available Port:] selection box.
  106.   o  Select [*]?:\TOFAX Unknown local port. Where the ? is the drive you
  107.      installed the fax program on.
  108.   o  Click [Next].
  109.   o  Click [(*)No], [Next].
  110.   o  Click [(*)Yes], [Next] and wait up to one minuet.
  111.   o  When asked [Would you like to start the fax program, click [Yes].
  112.   o  Shortly the ElectraSoft [Send Fax] box will appear.
  113.   o  Click [View Fax] to be sure it worked ok.
  114.   o  When asked [Did the test page print correctly] click [Yes].
